2007 Stanton Award Presented to Tom Breen
6/24/2007
On June 11th Tom
Breen was honored with the
William E. Stanton Lifetime Achievement Award at NENA’s 26th annual
conference in Charlotte,
NC.
Named for the first full-time NENA Executive Director and 9-1-1
pioneer, Bill Stanton, the award debuted at the annual NENA conference in 1999.
It is presented annually to an individual who has not only excelled in his or
her everyday job, but has gone above and beyond to further the goals of the
National Emergency Number Association. The NENA Executive Board determines the
recipient of the Award as nominated by the NENA membership and presented by the
NENA Nominating Committee.
“Tom
Breen
is an excellent choice to be nominated for the Stanton Award because his work
for NENA and
9-1-1
epitomizes all the goals of the award. I can’t think of anyone that is a more
active NENA member” said Paul Stoffels, AT&T, who submitted the nomination form
on behalf of Breen. “His vision, leadership, and devotion to the cause of NENA
has almost single handedly kept the Technical committees moving over the past
several years”, added Stoffels.
Back at the office BellSouth/AT&T, Tom has had a long
and distinguished career that constantly focuses on making
9-1-1
better for the nation. His reputation in the industry is well known, and one of
high respect. As an ENP certificate holder, Tom has shown that he has the skills
to understand, manage and lead in the development of 9-1-1
services with a commitment that is above reproach.
As a surprise NENA brought in Beth Breen
to hand the Stanton Award to her husband Tom. Two previous Stanton Award
winners, Barbara Thornburg, ENP (2002) and Bob Gojanovich, ENP (2003) presented
the award nomination at the General Session and were thrilled to be able to
participate in the presentation of the Stanton Award to a good friend and very
worthy recipient.
