Operations - Contingency Planning
The mission of the contingency planning committee is to:
- Provide a general guide of reference to PSAPs for the process of developing contingency plans which may be of assistance to any PSAP and their environment.
- Review new technologies for possible vulnerability issues in their application into the PSAPs.
In support of this mission, the Contingency Planning Committee:
- Develops documents to assist PSAPs to mitigate, prepare, plan and react to critical incidents which may adversely impact critical operations.
- Reviews documents from other committees to assure that contingency planning is incorporated into all relevant NENA documents.
- Represents NENA on other committees to provide a voice for contingency planning.

These analyses are essentially audits that provide planning tools to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from incidents that have the potential to adversely affect the PSAPs ability to perform its critical functions. Every PSAP is unique and this document should be used as a starting point in disaster planning.

Service Capability Criteria Rating Scale
APCO and NENA have jointly developed this document to assist PSAP Managers and their Governing Authorities to identify their current level of service capability. A self-evaluation assessment tool is provided to facilitate an objective review of the current capabilities of the PSAP against models representing the best level of preparedness, survivability and sustainability amidst a wide range of natural and man-made events.
